Forrestfield United maintained their dominance over Canning City with a hard fought, backs to the wall 2-1 victory away at Willetton Park.
The first half started with both teams sizing each other up as has been the case the previous 4 meetings with no real clear cut chances falling either way. The defences on both sides having the edge over the strikers as shots were mainly taken from range. Forrestfield however managed to beak the deadlock with a finally taken goal from Matt Alcock. He received the ball from a well won header from Gary Mann and managed to shake off his extra skin, his defender wore him like a glove all day, and slotted the ball in at the far post.
Wild celebrations once again turned into despair about 2 minutes later when Canning managed to equalize. The Forrie defence, trying to push up, were caught again when a floated cross into the 18 yard box wasn’t dealt with and the Canning number 17 managed to capitalize on some panic and toe poked the ball under Jayson in goals to make it 1-1.
City applied the pressure and were unlucky not to score from a corner not long after. The ball was crossed in and drifted back toward goal where Flappy Jay fumbled in the 6 yard box. Luckily it took an awkward bounce away from an incoming striker with all the net to aim for. After only managing to get a knee on it, the ball was finally cleared.
Forrestfield’s second came soon after with a good shot from Matty, parried by the Canning keeper onto the post where a made scramble saw the ball squared back to the penalty spot and Matt on hand to blast the ball into the back of the net. 2-1 advantage to Forrie at half time.
The second half saw Forrestfield camped in their defensive half with only a handful of forays into the Canning half as the City boys started turning the screws looking for an equalizer. Jayson and the defence of Pap, Emu, Chris K, Marty and Louie were constantly under a barrage of crosses, slick passing and aerial long balls which were all repelled.
A blistering shot from outside the 18 yard box crashed into the crossbar/post with Jayson beaten but luckily, with square posts rebounded out for a throw in. Minutes later another shot was angled into the far post with Jayson at full stretch saving it and with the ball ricocheting to the middle of the area managed to jump on it before the oncoming strikers.
Another long range effort again had the keeper beaten but whistled inches past the post and with Chris K winning nearly everything in the air and Emu marshalling a last man standing defence, Forrestfield held on to a well deserved victory. It was a great team effort with everyone contributing 100% effort and with results falling there way now sees Forrestfield topping the table with 9 points from 9.
